The TORINOKO Project – Interview: Martin Schechinger

The Torinoko Project started for whiteID Integrated Design with quite a special “briefing”. At a chance meeting at an exhibition in 2014 with Yamatoya, a Japanese manufacturer of children’s wooden furniture, it became clear that the understanding of good furniture design is in harmony! You can probably describe this initial, unplanned discussion as the foundation of the successful co-operation. Today, in the spring of 2017, Yamatoya is presenting the new range under the Torinoko brand name, and whiteID Integrated Design has asked its own staff what they think about this special project. INTERVIEW WITH MARTIN SCHECHINGER Senior Designer at whiteID since 2008

The TORINOKO Projekt –
Interview: Ann-Kathrin Müller

INTERVIEW WITH ANN-KATHRIN MÜLLER Designer at whiteID since 2015 whiteID Integrated Design also produced a bilingual brochure to accompany the product launch of Torinoko children’s furniture – what are the benefits of such an all-round project? ANN-KATHRIN MÜLLER: We know the product inside out. We were involved throughout the working process from the initial sketch right through to the finished product and were always kept up to date. We therefore knew every detail about the project. That is, of course, a huge advantage to be able to promote it later. You do not firstly have to acquire knowledge to then convey this appropriately to the customer.

Study for
Lufthansa Systems

As part of a study, whiteID Integrated Design developed a housing for a portable wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) and e-commerce system solution for Lufthansa Systems. This is an all-in-one solution that unifies all technical components – such as servers and access points – in a single device: The so-called Mobile Streaming Unit (MSU). Since no complex cabling is necessary, each MSU can be operated in the aircraft with little approval complexity – for example in the aircraft galley or in the luggage compartments. The small size and low weight make the handling easy. This enables airlines a quick launch of the portable solution without costly aircraft modifications. An integrated LTE modem also allows fast wireless updates of content while the aircraft is on the ground.
